I have used esnips to upload everything we have done in this module. I am unsure as to weather the interactive map will work now all the bits have been moved but fingers crossed it does.
Happy watching and listening!

Flowol
Today we are using a program called Flowol, this is a program in which you can make a flow chart and see how it affects an object. I have chosen to do a big wheel at each stage you have to decide what action to take and how long it should be for. I remember doing flow charts in both primary and secondary school. In primary school we used flow charts when creating instructions and I remember finding it very hard to visualise what each stage was. With Flowol you have a simulation to show you what effect all your decisions and commands have. I think that this will be good for pupils who are kinesthetic learners and visual learners.

interactive map - virual tour of plymouth campus
This session we focused on making an interactive map of plymouth campus. This can be used by teachers for children to explore different areas or topics. It could also be made by the children to research and show what they have found.
I found some of this task quite difficult. First we found the different pictures and sound files to use on our map. This was the simple part, we easily found them from a range of different websites. However when it came down to making the hyperlinks I came across some problems. I also had difficulties when trying to make the hyperlinks unseen. I have played around with the map at home and found it much easier to make the hyperlinks seen as little buttons on the screen. If i was to do this with children i would probably keep the hyperlinks seen.
I would like to try this again with pupils maybe linking to a geography topic of looking at differences between two communities. I think this would work well to stimulate independant research and learning.

Podcast
This week we made a podcast using our superdupermusiclooper track as intro and outtro music. I was already really excited about using the podcasts from the lecture on monday. Seeing all the interesting ways which podcasts are being used in schools by children made me think of many more ways in which i would like to use podcasting with a class.
They create a way for teachers and pupils can be in contact outside the school day to continue the childs education in a fun way in which the pupil does not know that they are learning. They also provide a way of telling parents, teaching and other pupils about what they have been learning and show off the skills they have.
I think a school podcast run by different classes would be a great learning oppotunity for pupils as it can be made so cross curricular. Obviously it is ICT and links very strongly with Literacy but it can also be liked to geography, history, music, science and much more. The pupils will have a reason to be learning these different topics and gives them an audience who they can tell what they have learnt.
I found the softwear a little challanging at first as it was hard to find the tools I wanted to use. However after a short time playing around on it finding the different settings and tools we were easily able to start editing out blog. Pupils would easily be able to use this softwear with a demonstation from the teacher.
We had a lot of fun making our blog and after some inital winging about how our voices sounded we got into writting a script and editing to add different sounds etc. I think podcasting could build a lot of confidence in pupils especially those who struggle with writting as it is another way for to get their knowledge across.

Music and Super Duper Music Looper
I came away from the music and ICT lecture on monday feeling more confident about teaching music with the aid of ICT. I have never felt particully happy about singing infront of anyone however it is something you accept you have to do infront of children and unforntunatly other adults as part of the teaching profession. If I was able to use something like the recording and words on the IWB to sing along with it, it would make me far more relaxed about having to so it. Other programs for recording the pupils singing and playing music would also be good for lessons as they could sing to their own creations.
This week our directed task was to create the intro jingle to the pod casts. The software we used was SuperDuperMusicLooper. I am not very good at music i dont have a very musical ear and I thought I would find this task really hard because of it. When we were given the software I found it really easy to access and start using. The program was so easy to use we had created a little tune in a matter of mins.
I think this software would be good for pupils in the classroom as it is so easy to use. Pupils of all ages could access it with minimal input from the teacher. They would enjoy these freedoms. The program also has a record fuction which can be used by very young children to record a short clip of them playing an instrument. They can then looop this in the program which will help them keep the beat for other instruments they are playing. There are so many different lessons and uses this program has in school, I cant wait to use it with pupils.

Work in progress - Animation
Well, we started our animation today and it was really good. It took a long time to do this part and we didnt get through the whole lot in the hour we were given. Im gonna put the link on here for the unfinished version but hopefully we can break into the computer room for some more editing next week.

Animation is a really good activity for pupils to do, it links to lots of different topics and subjects. Literacy is the most obvious one however it links very well to history, georgraphy, PSHE, music and drama. It can also be used to support numeracy if done correctly. Animation can also be used to support and assess pupils speaking and listening skills, they are working together as a group discussing ideas and taking different roles in the group.
During my previous school experience I worked with a group of year 2 pupils to produce a snowman dance based on their Litracy topic 'The Snowman'. They became very excited when we attemped it and became very difficult to have a group of them working around a table. This can be solved by working with animation more often and allowing the pupils to investigate the program to understand it further.

You Tube
I have been uploading things to youtube in an attempt to be more technologically minded. It took me quite a while and a few moments of panic and fustration but i have done it.. I feel like i have acheived something. The only thing I have found fustrating is that there are so many adverts and things which pop up while you are trying to do it. Even though I had my advert pop up blocker on. I dont know whether this is to do with YouTube itself or something else but it really annoyed me while i was attempting to negotiate the site.
Im really enjoying blogging and the other things it is leading me onto.

This is a video my year 2's did on teaching practice. It was linked to literacy, science numeracy and art. The pupils spend a morning planning and creating the snowmen, then they spent the next morning creating the stop frame animation in small groups of 6. They then put the clips together and edited them to add the visual and sound effects.
you can check in out at http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=DgOO1p2rn38
or by seaching Snowman dance on youtube.com
Let me know what you think!

Animation
Todays seminar and Mondays lecture made me really excited about the task we have to do this week. As soon as animation is mentioned my mind started goin over loads of different things we could make our 30sec stop frame animation about and planning different props and charactors. If this is what I got like as a 20year old students, imagin how excited and imaginative a child would be.
It is something i feel can be linked in with any subject in the curriculum. It links especially well with literacy planning and writing stories, story boarding, charactor development etc. It also works well with history and telling the different stories throughout time.
Hannah and I are going to be doing our clip on Henry the 8th and his 6 wives. This would be a fantastic way for pupils to sum up and show others what they have learnt throughout a topic.
When we are finished we shall post it up here for all to see.

Web 2.0 continued..
I have been thinking of what to write about the different uses of web 2.0 in schools.
To begin with I started to think of how it could be used to comunicate with pupils outside of school.
Homework can be posted online as a reminder or as a way of giving it out without pupils having hundreds of peices of paper. This would also mean a parent note could be put on the homework to help parents with what their children should be doing. The pupils could also be able to write up any problems they are having and for the teacher to respond quickly.
Pupils could also have school, year or class forums where they pupils are able to discuss the work they are doing and any difficulties between them which will also help to consolodate learning.
Many adults will worry in online discussions such as this that there will be some misuse. Online bullying or it being used for other conversations may happen. However I believe that if the pupils are taught to use the internet properlly and taught about classroom respect stretching into only discussions like this that there would not be problems using this kind of technology.
During the school day the possibilities when using web 2.0 technology are endless. I like the ideas of using blogs such as this one especially with other KS2 pupils. The can write about what they have been learning, anything that has particulally interested them or information which they can bring to a topic they are studying. This is not only a way to inform those outside and inside of school what the pupils are doing, it can also help to consolodate learning. By telling other people what they have learnt the pupils are recalling and using that information. Teachers can use it to check there are no misconceptions or gaps in the learning and parents will be able to use it to help engage themselves in their childrens learning.
There are so many more possibilities to use web 2.0 in schools, but like Connor has said in his blog it is up to the teacher to feel confident and teaching the pupils how to use this new technology to aid their education. Teachers must not feel afraid of everything new, we should be trying to find ways to use it.
There are many good websites with information and resources about web 2.0. these are a few i liked:

My first blog
This blog has been created as a directed task for our ICT module.
Web 2.0
I found the lecture on web 2.0 very interesting. At first I thought that it was a new technology and had that instant reaction of.. 'oh not some new technology learn to use'. However I was very surprised to find that it was something that I have been using for years. From years back when I used MSN space right up to my facebook addiction now. This made
Web 2.0 tecnology is something which I believe can be used to great advantage in schools, during class and to link home and school. In my next blog I will discuss some of they ways I believe web 2.0 can be used.
